The recent focus on an old post I made to Google+ reminded me I was no longer using that social networking platform. The 3 attacks in the Daily Post have taken an emotional toll, and I didn't want old posts taken out of context to continue to distract from my campaign. I also didn't want to risk subjecting any of my Google+ connections to harrassment. So I decided to deactivate my account.
Regarding the controversial post: it was a link to a page on MetaFilter that referenced several articles examinining the link between having children and overall happiness. My viewpoint is more nuanced than the terse line and link I shared on Google+. The decision of whether or not to have children is a huge one, and this was just one of many factors my wife and I considered when we talked about having kids.
I posted the link because I wanted to share an interesting research conclusion. I certainly never believed the sensationalist title MetaFilter chose for their page (no doubt to increase page views) claiming having kids will ruin your life. We all know that life is never that black and white. And of course decisions like this are extremely personal. There is no one right way to live our lives.
