Subject: LASD was just served legal papers at their board meeting by your vassal BCS
Read the exchange appended below and then ask yourself: is this appropriate behavior for a public school board to engage in? It is one thing to believe you have exhausted all options and need to got to court to resolve your difference. It is a wholly other thing to do so in a way that is aggressive and disrespectful.
An eyewitness account from a parent at the meeting: "BCS served the writ that issued by the court on Friday. BCS could have sent it by mail, sent it to our attorneys, etc. Instead, they chose to have a very non Los Altos looking heavily tattooed man to serve the papers after all of the board members and staff were seated."
And from the Patch coverage:

Los Altos Patch:
It appears that the board was just served by a process server. He's walked out door, just before the Pledge of Allegiance. |

Los Altos Patch:
Male speaker (don't know name): He asked what the document that was received by the process server? MGoines says the title of the document was the Peremptory Writ of Mandate (this is the document that was on Patch Sunday). "This was clearly just a BCS tactic to create a showcase its strength. The district's lawyer accepted that document, so this was just grandstanding. It shows the board that the tactics the BCS board was using unnecessary grandstanding." He says that the stepping stone is worth seriously considering. In light of the tactics, Prop. 39 offer is worthwhile offering, too. "I don't think Judge Lucas is going to take away a campus this year." |
BCS' interactions with LASD and the surrounding community—using the most positive of euphemisms—are well beneath their station. They need to be held to a higher standard. And you are the ones that must do that. Yes, I understand that their school looks great on paper. But the ends do not justify the means. Serving a public board with legal papers while it is in session is but one sad example of many.
Have you seen the 10 commandments they issued from upon high last week, which included the unprecedented requirement that they retain exclusive access to a public site 24/7/365? They are narcissists, plain and simple, attempting to take every advantage for themselves and their own kids with not a care of the negative impact it may have to anyone else in the community (in direct opposition to their own mission statement, I might add). By doing so, they are leaving in their wake a rising sea of incredulousness, anger, and resentment that is only serving to activate more and more parents and residents in my community who will demand answers from those allegedly overseeing BCS' conduct. I hope you have those answers for us all, and soon. We are growing quite weary of your inaction.
