Two minute design/vision philosophy

I recently gave a talk on interface design to some Stanford students. Here's the most essential distillation of that talk:

First define the problem, then design a solution.

A great vision is…
  • People-centric
  • Based on needs/outcomes (not solutions)
  • Ordered in a stack-ranked list
A great design…
  • Embodies the essence of the vision
  • Is as simple as possible
  • Has an æsthetic graphic design
